International makeup artist Sonia Allen shares some tips with us on how to achieve some of the hottest looks this winter using our new lipsticks from the Boutique Collection.
GLOSS TEXTURES
Gloss finishes are really making a comeback. Rose-nude shades for daywear and metallic finishes for evening...
HOW TO ACHIEVE THE LOOK:
Using a back and forth motion with a natural hair lip brush, use shades from the new collection of Mavala lipsticks to create a stain of colour on the lips. Any of shades of the Boutique Collection can be used for this look. Then, layer the Mavala Lip Gloss over the top for a high shine finish. Eyes are complimented with a wash of metallic colour using the Mavala Eye Shadow Crayons blended out with a dome shaped brush.
BLURRY FADED LIPS
An alternative to the perfectly-lined and precise lip, more lived in, effortless lip shapes made a debut on the runways.
HOW TO ACHIEVE THE LOOK:
To achieve this look, use a combination of the Lip Liner Pencils smudged with a dense lip brush as a base, followed by the Mavala lipsticks blended into the centre of the lips to create the "lived in" effect. The nude shades such as “Stylish Pink” or “Golden Rose” are a popular choice for this look. Use your favourite shade of Lip Pencil to create a bespoke colour when layered underneath the new range of lipsticks. Follow suit with the eyes and blend the Mavala Khol-Kajal Eye Contour Pencils along the lashline followed by two coats of the Mavala Creamy Mascara.
CUPID'S BOW ACCENTS
Highlighting on the cupid's bow has seen an increase in popularity, whether using a subtle shimmer highlight, matte highlight or metallic pigments.
HOW TO ACHIEVE THE LOOK:
Use the Mavala concealer in a lighter shade than your skin tone to highlight the cupid's bow using a fine pointed brush. Once set, proceed to add colour to the lips using the new Mavala lipsticks in shades “Dark Velvet” or “Purple Chic” and pay close attention to creating symmetry for your lip shape. Emphasise your brows using the Mavala Eyebrow Pencils and highlight your cheekbones using the Mavala Blush Iridescent to bring balance to your face.
RED LIPSTICK WITH BARELY THERE MAKEUP
Red lipstick isn't a new trend but the way it's being worn on the runway has set the trend for paring red lipstick with barely there makeup instead of pairing with the traditional winged liner or strong eye makeup.
HOW TO ACHIEVE THE LOOK:
Apply lipstick as a bold statement using a combination of the Mavala Lip Pencils and Boutique Collection lipsticks in shade “Red Carpet” or “trendy Orange”, or as a stain using just the lipstick. Pay attention to the eyelashes, first curling them then painting on the Mavala Waterproof Mascara with a fan-shaped synthetic brush to ensure that the product is applied as close to the roots as possible without any clumps. Apply the Mavala concealer to brighten under the eye area and also on the bridge of the nose using a synthetic concealer brush. For those who want a little something on the eyes, use the Silky Eye Shadow Waterproof and blend over the eyelids for a light wash of colour.
PEACH EVERYTHING
Peach tones are everywhere right now and can be used to complement an eye look or paired with a matching peach blush for an understated, fresh, modern look.
HOW TO ACHIEVE THE LOOK:
Use the Mavala Lip Balm to prep your lips then blot with a tissue. Use the shade “Golden Rose” from the new collection of Mavala lipsticks. Apply using a lip brush and enhance the tone with the Lip Liner Pencils in "Organza" or "Bois De Rose" applied in the centre of the lips only. For those who prefer a shine finish, dab a small amount of the Mavala Lip Gloss in "Pomelo" over the top. Use the Mavala Blush Iridescent in shade "Miel" on the cheekbones and buff in using a synthetic blending brush. Eyes can be complemented with some Mavala liquid eye liner in a small flick and brows groomed using the Mavala Eye Brow Pencils.
