With summer sunshine imminent, now is the time to detox and perfect the skin, leaving it velvety soft. The skin is the largest organ in our body and our protective barrier - the frontline in the fight against bacteria, infections, toxins, free radicals and more.
If you've been eating poorly lately, neglecting your skincare routine, sleeping in your makeup, or just suffering in general from a dull complexion, then a detox might just be exactly what you need. Look for these signs that your skin may need some extra TLC:
Clogged pores
Shine and dilated pores
Dull complexion
Uneven skin tone
Oiliness (particularly on the T-zone: forehead, nose and chin)
Simple steps to refresh the skin…
1. Mask it up
Facemasks are perhaps the product most commonly associated with a facial detox. This is not without reason as facemasks are an excellent way to draw out impurities from the pores, hair follicles and top layers of the skin. In addition, they are specifically designed to treat specific skin concerns.
Mavala’s Pore Detox Purifying Mask will detox the skin, has an immediate blotting effect for excess oil and unblocks and tightens pores without drying the skin. Alpine Willowherb inhibits the production of sebum, whilst Perlite, an ultra-light volcanic origin natural substance (5 x more absorbent than talcum and clay), absorbs sebum with an immediate blotting action. Used once or twice a week for 10 minutes, skin is left clean, velvety soft with a shine free finish. Skin texture is refined and pores are less visible.
2. Use a detoxifying cleanser regularly
Cleansing the face correctly twice a day is an essential step to rid the complexion of bacteria, oil, makeup and grime build-up. Look for products that are PH-balanced, soap and paraben free and that will cleanse and purify without drying the skin. Avoid nasty chemicals that can be too aggressive and inflame the skin.
Mavala’s Pore Detox Perfecting Foaming Cleanser is 10% witchhazel, an ingredient that has been used for centuries for its disinfectant and anti-inflammatory properties. With just one press on the pump, this lotion transforms into a light micellar foam to gently yet effectively cleanse the skin.
3. Exfoliate
Exfoliation weekly (once or twice) is the optimum way to rid the skin of excess debris and dead skin cells to enable masks and treatment products to penetrate deeper, delivering a more efficient result. Microcirculation in the skin is stimulated in the process, resulting in a more luminous complexion.
Mavala’s Skin Vitality Beauty Enhancing Micro-Peel is a creamy scrub with micronized (and biodegradeable) waxs beads enriched with Swiss Apricot extract, rich in minerals and vitamins, plus Mallow Flower extract, well-known for many millennia for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties.
4. Use an instant blurring-effect moisturiser
To assist with excess sebum production during the day, refine skin texture and minimize the appearance of pores, look for a product that instantly delivers a perfecting blur.
Mavala’s Pore Detox Hydra-Matt Fluid is a velvety fluid that leaves skin balanced, hydrated with a shine-free finish. Alpine Williowherb, Perlite and Witchhazel together deliver a bare skin feeling. Skin prone to imperfections is also dehydrated without knowing it and to compensate for its lack of water and to defend itself, often produces even more sebum. By using a hydrating serum underneath, this problem will be avoided.
Extra skin detox tips:
Drink plenty of water to flush the body of unwanted toxins.
Use ‘clean’ beauty products that are free from troublesome ingredients such as mineral oil, phthalates, sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, artificial colours and fragrances.
Bathing in epsom salts once or twice a week is a powerful all-over body detoxifier.
Use daily dry body brushing to help improve circulation and stimulate the lymphatic system to release toxins.
Clean diet all the way….. eating a rainbow-like diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, minimizing alcohol and caffeine intake, avoiding all refined sugars and highly processed foods, including healthy fats and alkaline-rich foods in your diet.
