10 ways to show your Mum you love her from afar

Celebrating Mother’s Day in isolation is a reality for almost everyone this year. Whether you live close by or are separated by distance, here are a few ideas to shower your mum with love – or a few hints to give your own family!

1. Fresh flowers

It may sound clichéd but floral delivery services are still operational in the current climate and who doesn’t love to receive a beautiful bouquet? Fresh flowers bring an element of the outdoors in, something we all need at the moment. Support a local florist close to your Mum and organise delivery. You’ll get to discuss and choose colours, making it a more personal gift too.

 2. Back to school, the fun way

Has your Mum longed to hone her skills, take up a new hobby or learn something new, but never found the time? Enrol her in a course or get a membership to inspiring sites like Masterclass, which features the best in the business – think Bobbi Brown teaching makeup and Margaret Atwood on writing. All things creative are covered over at CreativeLive with 1500+ courses to choose from, and Bake Club has baking covered – from the basics to the science behind it.

3. The gift that gives each month

Whether she likes to sit down with a magazine, or listen to an audiobook in the house or garden (or car once we’re out and about), treat your mum to a year-long subscription to a magazine on Magshop or isubscribe, or an audio book on audible – it’s got podcasts too.

4. At-home pampering treats

Send beautiful mani and pedi products in the place of a nail appointment. She can get the pro look at home with Mavala’s Easy Shiny Manicure set – mini emery boards, Protective Base Coat, Mini Colour polish, and Colorfix. Or choose one of a range of nail polish, skin and makeup sets – the choice is endless. Mavala gift vouchers and MavaBox, a quarterly subscription box, are also available. Find them here.

5. Dinner in

Surprise your mum with her favourite restaurant meal, at home. Most restaurants are now offering contactless delivery or pick up, and your gift keeps giving to local business too.

6. Write her a letter

Go retro and write your mum a thoughtful letter – include some memories, how her role and relationship make your life all the better, or any funny anecdotes. Or go techy and invite her to a virtual cuppa and catch up together on Zoom or House Party. You could even drop off a cake for her to enjoy ‘with’ you beforehand.

7. Give a unique gift

Using, wearing or having something new in the house will brighten her day. Choose quirky or handcrafted gifts - hardtofind, the Finders Keepers and buy from the bush all showcase and sell small designer’s pieces, making an original gift, and supporting artisans. For something fun and personalised, make a poster on Canva and have it printed and delivered – her favourite saying, recipe or photos would work really well.

8. Made to order

Who doesn’t love a personalised initial or customised name gift? A keepsake to represent the family, her children or her is a lovely and memorable way to celebrate Mother’s Day. For beautiful cushions customised with photos or family names (look for the Family Birthday/Celebrations cushion), head to Hampsons Homewares. For mums who have green fingers, Queen of Green offers a really unique gift - choose a plant and pot and personalise the pot with your choice of engraved words. As the plant grows and flourishes, it will remind your mum of you and Mother’s Day.

9. The gift of fitness

Send your mum a brighten-your-day yoga mat and introduce her to free online classes by Yoga with Adriene. We’re all familiar with the calming, centring and restorative benefits of yoga, plus its strengthening and helps flexibility – something we all need at this time when exercise is limited. Have a look at lovely eco mats by theOMshop or Yoga Design Lab
