Sun's out, toes out! Our guide to the perfect pedicure

As the weather really starts to heat up, it’s about time you got that pedicure sorted! While we all love to get a professional pedi, we don’t always have the time and let’s face it, it can be quite costly to get done regularly. Here are our top tips to getting your pedicure right.

Take some time initially to prep your nails.

This includes cleansing your feet and nails, removing any existing nail polish with a gentle remover, then shaping your nails with an emery board. If you have left it a bit long between pedicures, use some clippers initially and then finish and shape with the emery board.

Soften those cuticles.

Your cuticles tend to harden and split when they do not receive regular care. Massage the cuticles with some oil or cream and a firm rotating motion towards the centre of the nail. Find a tub or bowl and fill with warm water and a manicure pill or some Epsom salts. Soak your feet for at least five to ten minutes.

Make sure you do not skip the soaking, as removing cuticle cream or oil on nails is essential for your base coat and polish to adhere correctly.

Geeeently, roll back your cuticles.

After drying your feet, apply cuticle remover using the provided brush. Following this, delicately roll your cuticles back with a manicure stick covered with cotton. Massage any callouses with an exfoliating cleanser, then rewash feet in the basin to remove any dead skin.

Now for the colour!

Dry your feet thoroughly, including between the toes, moisturise your feet and apply the Pedi-pads to seperate your toes for polish. First, apply a coat of Mavala 002, double action base, onto the entire nail surface. Then, brush on two thin coats of nail polish in your favourite colour. Finally, finish with a coat of Mavadry which speeds drying time and gives brilliance to your pedicure.

Now, take the opportunity to relax with a magazine and let the polish dry!
