Winter lip care, and how to find a new lip colour

It’s a fresh new season, the perfect time to try something different and a new lip colour is the fastest way to update your look. But how do you know what shade suits you? And what about winter-dry lips that suddenly take hold? We’ve got all the answers…

Choose a shade that suits you

You might have a signature lip look or try all sorts of colours. For a minimal, but does-all lipstick wardrobe, go for three shades of lip colour that can work with anything. A nude, a neutral (think stronger than your own lip colour) and a bright. That could be hot pink, red, or even brown.

Lipstick or gloss is something to have fun with and choosing a colour that makes you feel good is just as flattering and uplifting as one that ‘technically’ suits your skintone. If you’re unsure, as a guide, look to the undertones of your skin via your wrist. If your veins are blue, you’re likely to have a cool undertone to your skin. If they are slightly more of a green in colour, your undertone is warm. Our new Mavala Lipstick Collection Oh La La! has six beautiful shades, from pale pink to hot pink, neutral to brown, with a flattering satin or pearl finish, and glides on beautifully thanks to the shea butter, aloe vera and Vitamin E formulation.

Choose your lip look

Let’s score lip products in terms of natural to super chic…

  • Ultra-natural: Lip balm. Gives a nourished, plumped look and feels super comfortable on lips (plus it has moisturising ingredients), or choose one with a hint of colour. Also includes SPF15.

LIP BALM
$19.95

Protecting and repairing.

Lips are deprived of sebaceous glands. They are therefore more vulnerable and cannot protect themselves against dehydration and aggressive factors such as pollution, cold, sun, very dry environment. This weakening results in losing firmness, developing lines and wrinkles, lip contour becoming undefined and sore and lipstick smudging.

Mavala Lip Balm protects and takes care of your lips. It relieves damaged lips, wraps them with its fine, velvety texture and with its subtle vanilla fragrance. Real restoring product for dry and chapped lips, but also ideal for all the lips that wish to retain their suppleness, softness and youth.

TINTED LIP BALM
$17.95

Moisturising and nourishing.

The external factors of aggression for the skin (cold, dry air, pollution, sun,...) affect more particularly the lips which are deprived of sebaceous glands. Lips dry out, lose firmness, their outline is altered, premature fine lines appear, letting the lipstick run.

MAVALA TINTED LIP BALM nourishes, moisturizes and protects lips, while lightly tinting them and leaving a delicious fragrance on the lips. The ultra-fine and non sticky texture is a major advantage of this lip care, which restores comfort and elasticity. This lip care is also suitable for very dry lips and children (above 3 years old). Use without moderation for supple and soft lips!

  • Natural to glam: Lip gloss. Depending on the colour you choose, can look everything from school/coffee run natural, to glossy and glam if you go for a hot pink or red gloss.

LIP GLOSS
$25.95

Caring Lip Oil Perfector.

Lips need special attention. Mucous membranes, deprived of sebaceous glands, they are more exposed to climatic conditions: bad weather, wind, cold, sun, pollution,… However, nothing impedes taking care of them while beautifying them.

MAVALA Lip Gloss is an ultra-shiny and non-sticky lip oil. Extract of grape seed oil, combined with emollient esters, provides soothing, regenerating and nourishing properties to this sweet scented "caring makeup product".

  • Statement lips: Lipliner. You can use liner in two ways – to naturally or overline your lips to give them a defined shape, or fill your lips with liner for a 90’s strong matte look.

LIP LINER PENCIL
$17.95

Extra-smooth.

MAVALA LIP LINER PENCILS precisely outline lips and allow an impeccable application of lipstick, also preventing it from smudging. Lips will be enhanced. Their smooth and fine texture as well as their velvety touch allow an easy and comfortable application.

These pencils come in different shades for a perfect and subtle harmony with the various colours of the MAVALA LIPSTICK range.

  • Polished natural to super chic: Lipstick, whether it’s satin, pearl or matte, it looks polished. It’s easy to elevate a no-makeup look with strong lipstick and a swipe of mascara too.

MAVALIP LIPSTICK
$25.95

Long-lasting and protective.

Lips need special attention. Made up of pink mucous membranes, they are, unlike the epidermis, deprived of protection against external irritations. Therefore lips are more exposed to climatic conditions: bad weather, wind, cold, sun, pollution, ...

MAVALA has created a protective epidermal hydrolipidic film, composed of lecithin and sterols, substances incorporated into all MAVALIP LIPSTICKS. Its regular application prevents from chapping and drying out. The MAVALIP LIPSTICKS improve suppleness and help moisturizing the lips. Easy and uniform application. Does not run.

MAVALA LIPSTICK
$35.95

Moisturising, comfortable satin lipstick.

Winner of the 2021 Prevention Best of Beauty Award for Best Lipstick (in shade Wild Poppy).

Lips need special attention. Made up of pink mucous membranes, they are, unlike the epidermis, deprived of protection which normally protects it against external irritations. Therefore lips are more exposed to climatic conditions: bad weather, wind, cold, sun, pollution,...

The MAVALA LIPSTICK glides on easily while leaving a fine and uniform layer. Hour after hour, its satin gloss remains outstanding, it stays on perfectly and its colour expresses itself with an incomparable fidelity. It provides an irresistible comfort to lips which stay soft and silky.

How to deal with dry lips

Lips are one of the most exposed areas of your body and they don’t have the same amount of oil glands so aren’t as naturally nourished as the rest of your skin. Then when your lips feel dry, you tend to lick them, which makes things worse.

If your lips feel a little dry, but aren’t painful or split, try this tip from celebrity makeup artist Caroline Barnes: ‘Use a liquid exfoliant on a cotton pad over your lips. Rinse with water, pat dry, then follow with a serum or moisturiser with hyaluronic acid. Pat on until it’s dry, then lock in moisture with balm’. She says you can also use a toothbrush, flannel or gentle scrub to exfoliate.

From Mavala, try Multi-Moisturizing Intensive Serum with hyaluronic acid, then go for Lip Balm, which has soothing and sealing ingredients to retain moisture. If your lips are flaky or painful, skip exfoliating and go straight to lip balm, making sure you’re drinking enough water. Use lip balm before you go to bed at night to soothe and create a smoother surface for your lipstick in the morning.
