Winter is the time to replace light glosses and balms with a trending bold, statement lip. It can be a difficult look to create, so we asked one of Australia’s influential makeup artists, Bec Hiriaki to show us how to pull off feature lips that are balanced against the rest of your makeup.
Step 1 - Brows
Add definition to the brows with the correct eyebrow pencil for your colouring and run the pencil through the brows. Dramatic or subtly drawn eyebrows will emphasise the whole harmony of your face and offset the bold lip. Use the brush to shape and groom hairs with precision.
Step 2 - Eyeshadow
Using the Sweet Truffle Eyeshadow Duo, take the dark shadow through the crease of the eye and outer corner. Build up the colour slowly and blend out, taking a less is more approach until the desired depth is reached. Use the light shade from the same duo and place this on the lid to meet up with the dark shade, brow bone and inner corner for a brightening effect.
Tip
Apply an eye base before applying eye makeup. Not only will this protect the delicate eye area but will fix the makeup ensuring it lasts through the day.
Step 3 – Eye Pencil & Lashes
Run the Soft Kohl Eye Pencil in Black along the top lashes, lash line and waterline. Use a small brush to smudge and soften this line but still keeping the definition. Take the Soft Khol Eye Pencil in Brun along the waterline to meet up with the black underneath. Use an eyelash curler to enhance the top lashes, pressing gently for a few seconds to create a lift.
Step 4 – Lips
Apply the new Noble Burgundy lipstick to the lips, taking care to stay within the lip line. Use a matching lipliner to define and shape lips and prevent the strong lipstick shade from creeping outside of the lip area.
Tip
When using dark, bold colours on the lips, the key to ensuring they don’t smudge and maintain depth of colour is to use a protecting lip base or fixing treatment product. Not only will this condition lips but will deliver long lasting lip colour.
Step 5 - Lashes
Apply VL Lifting Mascara in black to the top and bottom lashes for added volume and length. Use a couple of false eyelashes to the outer corner of the eye to further enhance the drama and lift, great for an evening makeup look.
Step 6 - Nails
To complement the overall look, paint nails in on-trend Mini Color Maputo.
