Any advice on how to refresh your lipstick for winter?

In my opinion as a freelancing makeup artist, I break down "winter" lipsticks into 3 categories - dark winter, cool winter and bright winter. Dark winter has colours like Berry Red, Rich Plum and Blackberry. I like to think of deep purple/red tones. For cool winter, the shades would be Burgundy, Ruby Red and a True Red. For bright winter, I would choose colours around Grape, Fuchsia and Hot Pinks. One can always go for more muted shades of these if they are too bold.

What shades are trending this season?

I have seen a lot of clients and fellow content creators recommend True Reds, Deep Cherry, Plum and Ruby Red lipstick shades right now. Not only are these flattering but make a statement on the face, especially if paired with a nude-neutral eyeshadow look.

How to best look after lips during winter?

Hydration! This step is the most important when taking care of your lips in winter. It is better to start applying lip balms, oils and bases from autumn to prevent lips from becoming chapped and flaky. If dark lip shades are used, they can stain the lips. Daily hydration can prevent too much staining and would help the lipstick last longer and look more seamless.

How to create the perfect red lip?

A perfect red lip must include 3 products - a nude lip liner, a red lipstick and a concealer. Apply concealer to prepare the lips as a blank canvas. Next shape the lips, either following the natural lines or stopping before the end of the lip to create more of a pout. Blend the liner into the lips with precision to prevent bleeding and smudging. Finally apply the lipstick within the guidelines created, using a brush for better control. If you have any mishaps along the way, a corrector product is essential.

Top 3 tips for wearing lipstick?

  • Always hydrate your lips the night before applying lipstick in the morning.

  • Blot off the excess on paper towel or tissue to prevent smudging.

  • Use a lipstick shade that brightens your complexion and make you feel your best!
