Holiday buzz is in full swing! With travel plans long overdue, mood-boosting escapes are on the cards for many. Even if camping locally or venturing further afield, packing can be stressful. After sorting your capsule wardrobe, the next important step is narrowing down your beauty choices. Stripping back beauty selections is no easy feat, so here are some suggestions to make it a breeze.

Check compliance with current travel guidelines for cosmetics

Avoid having products confiscated, so ensure they conform to the current travel regulations for domestic and international flights.

Downsize almost everything

Stock up on all your essentials in smaller options (if available) or transfer product into mini reusable solutions. Lugging around large containers isn’t practical and travel versions for most beauty products are widely available from dry shampoo to mini nail polishes. Keep a compact mirror to hand, you never know when you might need it!

Choose your cosmetic bag/s wisely

Successful beauty packing relies on organisation. Invest in a versatile cosmetic bag with plenty of compartment options to store cotton tips, brushes, nail clippers, band-aids and all manner of things to be found quickly with ease. Your bag needs to be expertly packed with a place for everything. Store hair tools, products and accessories in a dedicated bag. Clear cases making spotting things so much easier.

Look for product versatility

Consider the likely activities for each day and what’s on the overall itinerary. Save space and take products that are multi-purpose – instead of taking a make-up remover and cleanser, double-up by packing a micellar water. Use a BB cream for coverage during the day and build-up coverage where needed at night with a full-coverage concealer. Opt for a lip balm or gloss that can be used on lips, cheeks and eyes to eliminate the need for multiple products.

Make practical choices

Don’t take products that will break easily, melt or fall apart whilst on the go. Steer clear of glass and palettes if possible.  Opt for waterproof versions to save on smudging and the need for touch ups. Portable, pen-like packaging is a great way to save on space, for example using an eyeshadow crayon in place of a heavy palette.

Sanitise 24/7

It goes without saying that a pocket-sized hand sanitizer is readily available all times. Opt for a gentler version with essential oils to keep hands comfortable and hydrated.

Don’t forget your sunscreen

Enough said.

Avoid post-flight skin

It’s best to travel makeup-free (or a really low-maintenance version of your usual routine) and keep skin and lips well hydrated through the flight. A facial spritz is a perfect beauty companion on the plane. Avoid alcohol and sip on herbal teas instead, whilst enjoying a sheet mask.
